Origin of the name

The name of the mountain derives from the word 'baba' (old woman). In folk tradition, it is associated with witches.

Legends of Witches and Robbers

For centuries, the mountain has aroused fear and fascination among local residents. According to the most popular legends, witches' sabbaths and gatherings were held on the peak of the mountain, called Diablak. Other legends say that the mountain is a large pile of stones spilled from an apron by a giant woman. Folk tales are also full of stories about robbers who allegedly hid stolen treasures in its precipices and caves.
